Central Wool Growers Ltd was formed in 1929 as a Co-operative Society for the benefit of wool growers in the East Midlands.

The Company has always been based in Stamford and has been an important part of the local community and surrounding area, with its wool operation and the retail store benefitting the agricultural sector and providing employment for generations of local people.

Over the years, several retail stores were established, from Lincolnshire down to Essex and across to Northamptonshire. In 2010 the retail side was purchased by Mole Valley Farmers, who are based in South Molton, Devon. Central Wool Growers retained the seven freehold sites.

Part of the Stamford site was relinquished by MVF in 2016, enabling the company to increase its tenant base with Priory Veterinary Services, Bright Lite Structures and Optima Selfstore all now on site.

The Company worked closely with British Wool from the 1950's, being contracted to supply graded wool for sale at auctions in Bradford. This association continued until early 2021. This brought a long standing relationship with wool to a close.

Property rental income is now the main stay of the Co-operative.
